We’ve all been there—you’re pulling into your driveway in 35209, looking at the beautiful historic homes in Hollywood or the charming cottages in Edgewood, and you realize your own exterior needs a little love. With many homes in our area averaging about 40 years old, it’s common for original wood or older materials to show their age.
Upgrading your home’s exterior is exciting, but for many of us in the Homewood area, there’s one hurdle that can feel a bit daunting: the Homeowners Association (HOA). If you are planning a professional Siding Installation in Homewood, getting that green light from the board doesn't have to be a headache.
Read the Covenants First
Before you even pick out a color, grab a cup of coffee and read through your neighborhood’s CC&Rs. Every community is different; what works in West Homewood might not fly in a more restrictive pocket of the city.
Most HOAs want to maintain a consistent aesthetic to protect property values. They often have specific rules regarding material types—like fiber cement versus vinyl—and even specific color palettes that are allowed to ensure the neighborhood keeps its cohesive look.

Gather Your Samples
HOA boards are much more likely to say "yes" when they can see and touch the materials you plan to use. When we help neighbors with high-quality Siding Installation, we always recommend getting physical color swatches and material samples to include in your application.
If you're switching from wood to a modern fiber cement, explain the benefits of durability and fire resistance. Boards often appreciate upgrades that make the home safer and easier to maintain over the long run.
Winter Planning for Spring Success
Winter is actually a fantastic time to start this planning phase. While we have relatively mild Alabama winters, getting your paperwork together now means you're ready to go before the spring rains or potential ice storms roll in.
Submitting your application during the quieter winter months can also give the board more time to review your request without the rush of the peak renovation season. It’s all about being a good neighbor and keeping them in the loop early.
The Importance of Local Expertise
Whether your home is in Rosedale, Oak Grove, or right in the heart of the city, working with someone who knows the local architectural styles makes a difference. We understand the unique character of our community and how to choose materials that respect that history while offering modern protection.
At Patriot Roofing & Builders, we treat every project like it’s our own home. We've helped many neighbors throughout Homewood navigate the renovation process from start to finish, ensuring the results look great and satisfy the local requirements.
If you’re ready to talk about refreshing your home’s look or just have questions about which materials might be right for your street, give us a call. We're here to help when you're ready.
